According to the order of the Minister of Education on the 23rd and 24th of February 2012 classes will be suspended – winter holiday. Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC) is a programme for students 16-18 years old, delivering unique challenges at the most critical phase of worldly and academic life. The conference will be held in Washington and New York during the summer of 2012. The fundamental idea of this event, which gathers merited and motivated students from all around the world, is the development of firm leadership capabilities, confidence, independence and social commitment. Participants in the GYLC sessions develop skills, such as critical thinking and practical knowledge for decision making and problem solving, which may be successfully applied in real and academic life. Students return home from GYLC with a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities as citizens and future leaders in an international community, having exchanged ideas with some of the most distinguished politicians, journalists, diplomats and university lecturers.
In 2011 Evgenia Nestorova (Class 2012), Stefan Deskov (Class 2012), Mark Apostolov (Class 2012), Michaela Petrova (Class 2012) and Boyan Dinev (Class 2013) represented Bulgaria at the 12-day session in Washington and New York.
The admissions procedure for the 2012/2013 academic year started at Zlatarski School. Candidates can register for the admissions exam every Tuesday and Thursday, between 2pm and 4.30pm.
The admissions exams at Zlatarski will take place on 31 March 2012 (I intake) and 12 May 2012 (II intake). The admissions exam is designed according to the material, covered in grade 7, and it takes 3.5 hours. For more information about applying to 8 grade, click here.
For all candidates and their parents, the school organises information sessions on 14 March 2012 and 26 April 2012 at 5.30pm.Information meetings with candidates and their parents are taking place in the School auditorium. At the session prospective students are presented with information about the characteristics of studying at Zlatarski, the requirements from students and the schedule for applying to the school. Candidates and their parents have the chance to meet current teachers and students of Zlatarski School.

The traditional “bring and buy” sale of home-cooked cakes and pastry took place on 04.11. and 21.12.2011 at Zlatarski International School. The events were organised by Zlatarski students, who are also members of the Interact Club. While some students were participants in the preparation of the sweets, other students acted as buyers.
We are happy to announce that the total amount gathered by the two charity bazaars is 1075 leva. Part of the funds from the first bazaar were donated to the campaign “Buy and donate” for necessary products for children without parental care from the centres Novi Han, Dren and Gurkovo. The rest of the donated funds will be used in future projects of the Interact club at Zlatarski School.

At the festive opening of the school games for the academic 2011/2012 year in “Armeec” sports arena, Mrs Tatyana Vulcheva, sports teacher at Zlatarski International School, was awarded for a fourth consecutive time by the Mayor of Sofia – Yordanka Fandakova and Sofia Municipality. The well-deserved recognition is earned after Zlatarski table-tennis team (8-10 grade) won first place at the City Championship for students for the 2010/2011 academic year. This year we look forward our teams to dignify Zlatarski International School at the Regional, City and National Championships.At the opening ceremony were present representatives of the Ministry of Sport, Ministry of Education, Youth and Science, Bulgarian Olympic Committee, National federations, National Sports Academy, Bulgarian Sport Association, Sofia Municipal Council, mayors of district administration, heads and teachers of educational institutions in Sofia. The deputy mayor of Sofia Council, Mr Lyubomir Hristov, was a special guest at the opening of the School Games 2011-2012 and he, on behalf of the Mayor of Sofia Mrs Yordanka Fandakova, congratulated the awarded teachers. The teachers were also greeted by the vice-minister of sport Ivan Cenov.

Participation at a seminar for realization of young leaders, Brno, Czech Republic. Valentina Petrova (11 IB b), Gabriela Hristova (11 IB b), Gabriela Todorova (11 IB c) and Mirela Maneva (11 IB b) are participating in the project “Youngsters for a better Europe”. The seminar is taking place from 4-13 November, 2011 in Brno, Czech Republic.
First meeting along project “Integration and equality in the field of education by means of Physical education” by the programme Komensky. The project marked a successful start with a meeting between the partners from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Portugal, Norway, Latvia and Spain (coordinators) along the project “Integration and equality in the field of education by means of Physical education”. Every participant at the meeting introduced the culture and tradition of its country in front of the students of Antonio Gala School, Dos Hermanas, Seville. Victoria Kovacheva (12А) and her classmates made a short film named “Bulgaria – Culture and Tradition”, which was acknowledged with cheery emotions among their Spanish peers. The next meeting is in Latvia (January 2012), where each of the partner’s goals and activities for the period October – December 2011 will be evaluated.

3 November 2011 – students from grades 8-12 met with the great-grandson of prof. Vassil Zlatarski – Dimitar Todorov. The topic of the meeting was е “Modern Nomads. Traveling as a Way of Life.”.
Dimitar Todorov has specialized in the field of IT, but defines himself as a traveler/adventurer. Mr Todorov mostly lives and works in South Africa, but ensures time and effort to visit interesting and exotic places all over the world. He has visited 120 countries in 7 continents, including Antarctica. He has climbed one of the hardest and steepest peaks, rowed down virgin rivers and has faced life-threatening situations. Mr Todorov lectured Zlatarski students about his expedition to Antarctica, his adventures in Africa and for the different faces of India. As a compliment to the school library, he kindly donated his book “From Karabakh (around seven continents) to Kalahari”.

8 November 2011 – students from 11th and 12th IB History Class paid a visit to an exhibition of original historical documents after the Liberation of Bulgaria at the Central State Archives. The visit is organised with the cooperation of Mr Miroslav Koev, a former teacher in History at Zlatarski International School.

The entry exam for Oxford University TSA took place on 02.11.2011 at Zlatarski School. TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) is an entry exam for degrees such as: economics, social science, engineering, political science, psychology, sociology, philosophy etc. at the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge and University College London. Zlatarski International School is authorised to organise and implement the entry exams for Oxford and Cambridge in Bulgaria. Candidates from all over the country may sit the exams BMAT, ELAT, HAT, PAT, STEP, TSA at the school.

At the end of October Zlatarski students took part in the academic practice “Old Bulgarian cities”. The school trip was organised as follows: Sofia – Veliko Tarnovo – Veliki Preslav – Shumen – Pliska – Sveshtari – Rousse – Sofia.
The football club of Zlatarski School faced the opponent from the German Language High School on 27.10.2011. The result is a draw – 2:2. The next match is against the American College of Sofia. Good luck to our boys!

Making the Most of a College Fair
College Fairs can be great opportunities to get more information about colleges that interest you and to discover schools you may not have considered. However, getting the most from a college fair takes a little planning ahead. If you are just beginning the college search process, it is also a great time to pick up informational materials from lots of schools. Depending on how large the fair is, it might not be the best time to have an in-depth conversation with a college rep about whether or not that school is the right fit for you. But it can be a great time to get any questions you have answered.
Do your homework
Before the fair, get a list of colleges attending. Write down any questions that come out of your research or that you want answered by every college. Decide which are the most important questions, so that you will ask those first.
Ask questions
It can be intimidating for some students to ask questions of the college representative, but keeping quiet will not get you the information you need. Regarding questions – it’s true that there is no such thing as a stupid question. However, there are some questions, which garner lots of interesting information and other questions which may produce less beneficial answers. For example: “Can you tell me more about your Program in Liberal Medical Education?” is a fine question. A more productive question might be, “What is the application process to the PLME program?” or “What is the philosophy of the PLME program? “. Basically, the more specific your question, the more specific our answer and the more satisfied you ultimately feel about the information you receive. When I am asked a very general question, I usually have to flesh out what information the student is actually looking for. But unfortunately, admission officers are not mind readers. So the interaction will probably be more positive for you if you get specific.
Follow up
When you get home, look through the information you have collected, including the answers to your questions. Thumb through everything and see what you think. Ask yourself, “Does this information answer what I need to know?” If is does not, give the representatives a call or email. This is the whole purpose of a college fair: to get you in contact with colleges that may be right for you, even if they were not on your original list. If a school sparks your interest, find out more!

The annual International Baccalaureate Viva Voce took place at Zlatarski School on the 11th of October and was attended and well received by students and staff alike.
As with every year the 12th grade students have to give a presentation which aims to justify the Extended Essay topics they have chosen to do. The event was attended not only by the 12th graders, also many of the 11th grade students were part of the audience.
All of the presentations were of a high quality however some of the ‘standout’ ones were presented by Vassil Ivanov who presented on Hitler’s relationship with his top Generals and Ekaterina who did an interesting piece on the 
cultural relevance of the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Over the whole event was a huge success which built on the very successful first Viva last year. Congratulations to all students who took part.

In the period 12 October – 18 November 2011 at Zlatarski International School will take place the official British exams IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education). IGCSE is an academic programme for secondary education, designed for students in grades 8 to 10 in the United Kingdom as well as in many international schools across the world. Zlatarski School teaches the programme and is an authorised centre for sitting the exams in Bulgaria. Integrated in the programme of an English language school, the IGCSE programme prepares students for their successful progression in the International Baccalaureate/A-level programme in grades 11 and 12.
Founded in 1995, Zlatarski International School is the only school in Bulgaria, which teaches the international programmes Pre-IGCSE (8 grade), IGCSE (9 and 10 grade) and International Baccalaureate/A-level (11 and 12 grade) to Bulgarian and international students. The school curriculum integrates the international standards to the Bulgarian national curriculum. After introducing the International Baccalaureate in 2003, Zlatarski School marks the highest results achieved by Bulgarian students in the international baccalaureate examinations.

The reasons – the excellent results, which satisfy the requirements of the most selective universities; the organised by the school preparation for university applications; and the fact that in parallel to achieving the international diploma, students also gain the Bulgarian diploma of an English language school. “The most significant benefit of students achieving their international secondary education close to their families, here in Bulgaria, is the family atmosphere, which creates the feeling of security and comfort, the existence of parental control and clear rules”, comments the school counselor Anna Joukivskaya.
As early as grade 8 students are enrolled in the Pre-IGCSE programme, which is an excellent preparation for the IGCSE education (9 and 10 grades). Besides the intensive preparation in English, students of Zlatarski School are also taught in English in the Sciences, Social sciences and Mathematics with textbooks from Cambridge University Press. The programme includes tuition by native speakers. Students are prepared for exams in English, Mathematics, History, Biology and Physics. The successful results in IGCSE exams after grade 10 is highly respected by university admissions committees. Tution fees at the school are on average 3500 euro per year, while the same tuition costs around 20 000 pounds in the United Kindom, while in Switzerland tuition fees vary between 54 and 100 000 Swiss francs.

Dear parents,
On 04.10.2011, Tuesday, the first for the academic 2011/2012 year parents meeting will take place. You will receive organisational information regarding the upcoming events and activities until the end of the first term. The parents meeting will take place according to the following schedule:
8 grade – at 17:00 o’clock
9 and 10 grade – at 17:30 o’clock
11 and 12 grade – at 18:00 o’clock
Zlatarski School students with exceptional academic profiles were chosen by the school to take part in the sessions of the Global Young Leaders Conference. Evgenia Nestorova (Class of 2012), Stefan Deskov (Class of 2012), Mark Apostolov (Class of 2012), Mihaela Petrova (Class of 2012) and Boyan Dinev (Class of 2012) represented Bulgaria in the 12-day session in Washington and New York in June 2011.
Students of Zlatarski International School represented Bulgarian in Harvard in July 2011. The students who were nominated by Zlatarski School after a difficult competition and successfully passed the application process for 2011 People to People Leadership Summit, are: Gabriela Hristova (Class of 2013), Mirela Maneva (Class of 2013), Eva Staneva (Class of 2012), Lorin Raichinova (Class of 2012), Danail Vasilev (Class of 2012). Participation at this prestigious event at Harvard University not only gave them the opportunity to spend 10 days at one of the most selective universities in the world, but also to develop their leadership skills and to learn more about achievement.

“Приетa съм в London School of Economics (LSE) и ще уча финанси и счетоводство. Това, че учих IB икономика в училище много ми помогна. Кандидатствах през UCAS центъра на моето училище. Постигнах International Baccalaureate диплома с 40 точки. Решаващи за моя успех бяха средата в училище и препоръките на Гимназия Златарски. Чувствам се достатъчно подготвена. Мечтата ми е реалност, вече съм студентка в LSE”, щастливa е Елица Манова, завършилa с две отлични дипломи – българска и международна IB диплома.
На 25 октомври 2011 представители на London School of Economics ще посетят училището и ще представят програмите за обучение пред учениците на Гимназия Златарски. Имаме установени контакти с елитните университети във Великобритания и Европа. Училището се ползва с нужната репутация сред приемните комисии, което подпомага учениците на гимназията при кандидатстване. Тази есен презентации в училището ще изнесат и представители на New York University, University of Kent, Aston University и др.
Тази година учениците на Международна гимназия „Проф. д-р Васил Златарски” имат рекордно високи резултати на изпитите International Baccalaureate. Иван Дамгов, ученик от Випуск 2011, постигна 44 точки на IB изпитите (макс 45). Това е най-високият резултат, постиган някога от българин на международните изпити и нарежда Гимназия Златарски сред най-добрите международни училища по света. Дипломантите на училището биват приети в Oxford University, St Andrews University, Warwick University, King`s College, University College London, Queen Mary, University of Leeds, York, Exeter, в специалности като икономика, финанси, право, архитектура, компютърни науки, интериорен дизайн.
С престижните 41 IB точки Николай Савов заминава да учи икономика и мениджмънт в St Andrews University. „Преди пет години избрах Гимназия Златарски, защото е страхотно място, срещнах едни от най-добрите си приятели. Тук учениците и учителите работят заедно за постигане на най-добрите резултати. За да успееш, трябва да се трудиш много и да знаеш какво искаш”, споделя Николай.
Гимназия Златарски е оторизирана да провежда и приемните изпити за Оксфорд и Кеймбридж в България. На 2 ноември 2011г. кандидати от цялата страна могат да се явят в училището на изпитите BMAT, ELAT, HAT, PAT, STEP, TSA. Регистрацията за изпитите продължава от 1 септември до 12 октормври 2011г.
„Доказахме, че българските ученици могат да се реализират в едни от най-труднодостъпните университети във Великобритания. Оказва се, че старанието в крайна сметка се възнаграждава”, коментира Даниел Парсънс, преподавател по история в Гимназия Златарски.

So the academic year starts again and as with every year the first event on the academic calendar is the IB retreat. As with other years the IB retreat was over two days and works as a comprehensive information session for the new 11th grade IB students.
While the retreat this year still included all the presentations from previous years the second day focused more on activities rather than presentations. There was also an opportunity to introduce new members of staff.
The activities on the second day involved the students deciding what would be an ideal IB student, the qualities that would be needed compared to the qualities they hav
e now. There was also an opportunity for the students to get some first-hand experience in how the CAS element of the programme worked, with a role play.
Finally, the students received some very valuable advice on how to deal with IB stress. All in all it was agreed by both students and staff alike that the two day event had been very useful and a lot of fun.
Here’s wishing all the students the very best for the forthcoming IB academic year.

It is a pleasure to officially announce the confirmed visit by a representative of London School of Economics and Political Science at the first College Fair at Zlatarski School in October.
We would like to remind you that Elitsa Manova, IB graduate of Class 2011 of Zlatarski School, is continuing her education in LSE after obtaining an IB Diploma with 40 points and a 6 in HL Mathematics. She will be studying Accounting & Finance, one of the most competitive courses in UK. LSE is the 4th University in the top Universities table after Cambridge University, Oxford University and St Andrews University.

Dear students, the academic year 2011/2012 at Zlatarski will start on 15th September 2011 at 10 o’clock. According to our tradition, students should be dressed with formal clothing (dark trousers/skirts, white shirts and black shoes). We expect you relaxed and ready for a new successful school year.
The academic year for the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme (11th and 12th grade) students starts on 7th September 2011. Students from 12th IB grade start their classes on 7th September 2011 at 9 o’clock. Students from 11th IB grade start with the IB Retreat on 7th September 2011 at 9:30. The IB teachers will shortly present their subjects, will define the differences between different levels (SL, HL) and will clarify their requirements and assessment. Students will receive the course outlines in all IB subjects and the Internal Calendar, including all deadlines for internal and external assessment.
Preparatory Course in English for the new 8 grade students: 29 August – 12 September 2011.
The preparatory course in English for new 8 graders, who have achieved under 50% in the English Entry Test, will take place between 29 August and 12 September 2011, every day (excluding weekends and public holidays) between 9:00 and 13:00 o’clock.
Preparatory Course for the IGCSE exams (after 10 grade) in English, Mathematics, History, Biology, Physics will take place between 29 August – 2 September between 9:00 and 14:15 o’clock.

Preparatory course in English 29 August – 13 September 2011
Zlatarski School organises a preparatory course in English for newly admitted students in 8 grade, who have achieved under 50% in the English Entry Test. The course will take place between 29 August and 13 September 2011 (every day excluding public holidays) between 9.00 am and 1.00pm. The School will contact the students, who have not shown the required proficiency in English to invite them to the course. On 5 July 2011 the International Baccalaureate examination committee announced the official results of the IB diploma candidates – Class of 2011. This year our IB graduates achieved a record performance. Ivan Damgov ’11 set a new school record by achieving the excellent 44 points in his IB Diploma (45 max). This is the highest result ever achieved by a Bulgarian student in the IB exams. The average mark of Zlatarski School students is 34 points, with a world average of 29 points. This year we have an exceptional number of IB graduates with diplomas over 30 points – 82 %, while 40 % of our students achieved the requirements of some of the most prestigious universities in the world – 36 points and above! Zlatarski School students have the highest results in the International Baccalaureate in Bulgaria!
Excellent results: With their results, the graduates of the Class of 2011 were admitted to the following universities: University of St Andrews, Warwick University, London School of Economics, Kings College London, Durham University, Queen Mary University, University of York, Exeter University, University of Southampton, Essex University, Sussex University, University of Manchester, University of Bath, University of Westminster, Royal Holloway London, University of the Arts, etc.

What are the requirements of the universities: Universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, London School of Economics, Harvard and Stanford require a score between 38-40 points in the IB diploma. The universities: Warwick, University College London, King’s College, City University, Durham, commonly set a condition of 36 points. Depending on the subject of the degree, a result of 30-35 points is required by the universities of: Essex, Sussex, Exeter, Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham, Kent, Brunel, Queen Mary and Westminster. Only 5% of the students around the world graduate with a diploma with a score above 40 points.
Results by subjects: The cheers this year are deserved by the appreciable progress. We are proud with the excellent results in Bulgarian, English, History, Physics, Mathematics higher and standard level, German, Spanish, as well as the A grades in the Extended Essays and the TOK Essays. The average result by subjects for Class 2010 in Zlatarski International School is 5.06, compared to the world’s result – 4.66. The convincing results mark the international level of education at Zlatarski with higher results than the average of the world.

All admitted and enrolled in the 8 grade students of Zlatarski International School sit the English Entry Test exam on 22 June 2011 at 14.30. It is used to allocate the students in classes according to their language abilities. The results of the entry test will be announed in the online accounts of the students after 15 July 2011.
For the students that need extra preparation in English, the school organises a preparatory course in English. The course will take place between 29.08.2011 and 09.09.2011 excluding the weekend. Teaching time: between 09.00 and 13.00.
On 18 June 2011 at 9.30am the traditional school celebration will take place at Zlatarski School.

Dr Boris Todorov – The Zlatarski family has given Bulgaria and the world two historians. The first – Prof. Vassil Zlatarski – in addition to being the founding ‘father’ of Bulgarian history is also the patron of Zlatarski School; and the second – Dr Boris Todorov, who after graduating from University of California and teaching History in Yonsey University in Korea, has joined the teaching team at Zlatarski School and is a teacher of history with us.
Mr Petko Georgiev - radio and television journalist and producer, founder of the Free Speech Forum and the Bulgarian Media Coalition, expert in the development of independent media. He is Director of foundation “Promedia – Centre for Radio and TV education”. He is also the father of Nia Georgieva from the Class of 2011.

The Project „Stop Missing Opportunities” of Zlatarski International School is among the 45 European School Project awarded the financing of the Academy for Central European Schools
History
The motto of this year’s school initiative – “Building bridges in societies – volunteer in your communities” is linked to the European Year of Volunteering 2011/http://europa.eu/volunteering/bg/home2 . A total of 132 projects applied for the awards. The aim is to support those who work and take care of others and for society on a volunteering basis. For example, students who help their peers at school, the organisation of concerts for the elderly, students organising projects against discrimination. Everyone can be a volunteer and in addition to personal achievement, volunteering helps in the development of lifelong skills. The partnership between schools in two or three countries offer the opportunity for intercultural exchange by contributing for the ‘bridging’ of different cultures and societies.
The Project „Stop Missing Opportunities” (September 2011 – March 2012)
This project is the result of the work of Zlatarski International School and th School for Economics and Tourism, Bar, Montenegro. The students are the main actors of the projects and they will have the chance to participate in numerous volunteering opporunities both in their home countries and in their partner school countries. One of the projects taking place in Bulgaria under the leadership of Zlatarski School students is the making of martenici (in both countries these are made, but these are made differently). The martenitsi will be then donated to the children in the Asen Zlatarov Home in Nadejda. The school exchange will not only enrich our students’ experience, but it will also contribute for the development of key skills such as teamwork, exchange of ideas and a greater feeling of tolerance and social responsibility. Last but not least, the students will be able to develop new friendships with their peers.
What next?
The Project Coordinator at Zlatarski School, Anna Joukivskaya, together with a student who will be nominated by the teachers and headmaster at the school, are officially invited to represent the school at the Kick-off Meeting in Saraievo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in September 2011. This initiative is part of the mission of Zlatarski School to develop active, responsible, risk-taking, tolerant young people, who contribute to the world around them without necessarily seeking a reward in return.

On 18 June 2011 at 9.30am the traditional school celebration will take place at Zlatarski School. Part of the event is the graduation ceremony of the Class of 2011. We would like to share with you our achievements and together to award our students. Every year the Teachers’ Council nominates the students with excellent academic achievements and active role in school life, and the Head of School awards the most distinguished students in the Director’s List. Every class teacher submits their nominations for awards, which are then voted on by the whole teachers’ council.
It is a pleasure to invite you to our school celebration. For the sixteenth time the school will mark the successful end of the academic year by sending away its twelfth graduating class and by awarding the most devoted to the school community students. Founded in 1995, the school established the reputation of the only school in Bulgaria, which integrated the international programmes International Baccalaureate, IGCSE and A Levels in the curriculum of an English language school. The school offers its students the programmes Pre-IGCSE (8 grade), IGCSE (9 and 10 grade), International Baccalaureate/A Levels (11 and 12 grade). We are glad that thanks to their active participation in school life, our students contribute to making our school a prestigeous educational institution.
We are delighted by the university placement of the Class of 2011 of Zlatarski School. Our graduates gained places in some of the most selective universities – St Andrews, London School of Economics, King’s College London, Warwick University, Durham University, York University, Exeter, Queen Mary, Cardiff University to study finance, economics, management, law, architecture, engineering, etc. In addition to their academic results, our students managed to win many sport competitions in football, athletics, volleyball, table tennis, badminton.

State Exams 2011 – Excellent Results
Zlatarski School students achieved excellent results in the May 2011 State Exams. The results are the highest so far in the matura in Bulgarian language and literature. 65% of the students achieved higher results than 5.50 in the Bulgarian matura, and 53% – in the matura in English. The results of Zlatarski School students in Bulgarian language this year are higher than the results in 2010, 2009 и 2008. In 2011 98% оof the students achieved a mark of very good and above in the Bulgarian matura, and 91% – above very good in the matura in English.
Top 10 at the State Exam in Bulgarian language and literature
For 2011 the top 10 of the school in the matura in Bulgarian language and literature are: Darin Abu Asi (5.95), Yavor Tsvetanov (5.93), Monica Djotolova (5.93), Aleksandra Algafari (5.91), Hristina Krusteva (5.91), Nia Georgieva (5.88), Nikol Koleva (5.86), Nadejda Velichkova (5.82), Ema Toshkova (5.75), Dimitar Dimitrov (5.74).

The preparation for the state exams at Zlatarski School starts in the 11 grade. All students in grade 11 and 12 have special state exam preparation classes included in the regular curriculum. The average result of the school in 2011 is very good 5.51 in the Bulgarian matura, and very good 5.34 in the English matura. With these results Zlatarski School once again proves to be one of the leading schools in the country. The results of the 2011 state exams are:

The football team of Zlatarski School won first place in the class – boys 11-12 grade. For a consecutive year the sport achievements of students at Zlatarski School prove that our students develop both academic skills and skills such as sport discipline, motivation, confidence and teamwork skills.
We are happy that once again we celebrate the first places in a number of competitions – 1st place in the “Studentski” area in football, 11-12 grade, 1st place in the “Studentski” area in table tennis, 8-10 grade. Our basketball team achieved a silver medal, while our table tennis team came ninth in Bulgaria.
На 26 май 2011 в Гимназия Златарски се проведе сесия на Европейски Младежки Парламент (European Youth Parliament – EYP), на която взеха участие около 30 ученици от 8 до 11 клас, разделени в тематични комитети. EYP е уникална организация, която провокира огромен интерес сред младите хора от Европа на възраст между 16 и 22 години. Опитът, който младежите трупат в сесиите на Европейския младежки парламент, ги насърчава да се запознаят с начина на мислене, характеристиките и традициите на техните връстниците от другите европейски страни, да уважават разликите помежду си и да работят заедно за формирането на едно по-добро общо бъдеще.

More students aged 14-18 and their parents choose the international programmes International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE and A Levels due to the excellent academic reputation, the different programmes and most importantly due to the opportunities when applying to a top university in the world. Founded in 1995, Zlatarski School has established a reputation of a serious international school, which is an achievement for the whole school community – teachers, students and parents. The school offers the international programmes, which are integrated in the English language high school – the British Pre-IGCSE (8 grade), IGCSE (9 and 10 grade), International Baccalaureate/A Levels (11 and 12 grade). What are the requirements of the top universities in the United Kingdom?
The most popular university programmes in recent years have been economics and finance, law, architecture, interior design, medicine and computer science. In order to be successful in their application to the most prestigeous British universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, King’s College, UCL, Imperial College, Warwick, York, St Andrews, students are often required to have successfully completed the International Baccalaureate or A levels (16-18 years old), with good results in IGCSE (14-16 years old). For example, at the London School of Economics around 96% of the undergraduate students have completed either the International Baccalaureate or A levels, with excellent results i.e. over 38 points in their IB Diplomas or marks A, A, A at A levels. To achieve such high results, of course, students need a solid preparation at school. Zlatarski School in Sofia offers its students these international programmes and students in Bulgaria have the opportunity to receive the required university preparation as those in the UK.
The beginning of the International Baccalaureate in Bulgaria
The idea of Zlatarski School to introduce the International Baccalaureate (IB) in Bulgaria was born in the year 2000. Representatives of the International Baccalaureate in Geneva visited the school for the first time in 2002, in 2003 Zlatarski School completed all programme requirements and thus it was authorized as the first International Baccalaureate World School in the country.
Successful integration of the IB in a Bulgarian school
The preparatory work around the integration of the International Baccalaureate in the curriculum of a Bulgarian English language school continued for several years. The school received the support and authorization by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education. Thanks for the international cooperation with schools in Norway, Great Britain, France, Italy and Greece, Zlatarski School started teaching and administering the International Baccalaureate programme. The school has taught the International Baccalaureate programme for more than 10 years. More than 40 teachers have been sent abroad to receive their international qualifications and more than 180 students have received successfully their IB Diplomas. Teachers are certified abroad, the school laboratories are equipped according to strict regulations, and the textbooks and school materials are ordered from the UK. So far, Zlatarski School has earned the reputation of the most established and most academically successful International Baccalaureate school in Bulgaria.
Launch of the British IGCSE and A Levels in Bulgaria
Candidates are better perceived by top universities if in addition to their excellent results in the IB or A levels (11 and 12 grade), they have also completed the programmes IGCSE (9 and 10 grade) and Pre-IGCSE (8 grade). Zlatarski School established contacts with Cambridge and it started work on the integration of the British IGCSE and A Levels in Bulgaria. Therefore, in January 2010 Zlatarski became the first Bulgarian school, which teaches the IGCSE and A Levels.
Applying to a top university in the United Kingdom
A very important role is played by the student’s motivation essay and more importantly the school’s reference. To apply to a prestigeous university in the UK, a student has to use the UCAS system. Schools in the UK have school UCAS accounts and this way, in addition to the student application, the school sends its recommendations. In 2008 Zlatarski School was linked to UCAS and it received a school UCAS account. This way the school is part of the British application system and students’ applications are sent with a teacher’s recommendation and a head of school recommendation. This helps the students, especially when it matters which school the student comes from. Zlatarski School also administers the admissions tests for Oxford and Cambridge in Bulgaria. Since 2011 the school launches a specific preparatory programme for those planning to study medicine, pharmacy and biotechnologies in UK universities.
Results of Zlatarski School students in comparison to students around the world
The 10 years of experience Zlatarski School has as the first international school in Bulgaria contributes to the high results achieved by students. For example, students of Zlatarski School with results of 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 points in their IB Diplomas are currently studying at Oxford, LSE, King’s College, University College London, Warwick, Durham, Bath, etc. Clearly, to achieve such a high standard, a school needs a lot of time, energy and devotion by the school administration, teachers and students. It is an achievement for the school to offer students in Bulgaria the international programmes IB, A Levels and IGCSE, and to help them achieve excellent results, which then leads to a succesful admission in some of the most prestigeous universites in the UK.
This year the 7 graders, who applied to Zlatarski School, achieved very good results in the admission exams for grade 8. According to the statistics, the results are higher than last year’s with more than 50% of the students achieving overall ranking of 30 and above (out of 36 maximum). The admissions exams at Zlatarski School took place on 8 April and 14 May 2011. A larger number of students are sitting the admissions exams at the School, which ensures higher competition and a higher quality of students, accepted at the school. Around 54% of the candidates come from national schools, while 46% of the candidates come from private schools.
All admitted and enrolled students in grade 8 of Zlatarski International School sit an entry exam in English. The results are used for the allocation of students in classes according to their language ability. The exam will take place on 22 June 2011 at 14:30 at the school.

The Zlatarski School Table Tennis team won the golden medal for Sofia and the champions are: Borislav Panov (10a), Luchezar Pavlov (10a), Filip Nasser (10a) and Petar Tsvetanov (9b). On 13 and 14 April the third (final) round of the Sofia school tournament in table tennis took place in the building of 153 PG. Our team won the first place! Congratulations boys!

Dear graduates! The matura exam in Bulgarian language and literature will take place at Zlatarski School on 17 May 2011 (Tuesday) at 8.00 am. All graduates should be at the school at 7.15 am.
The second matura exam will take place on 19 May 2011. it takes place across different schools in Sofia, and that is why students should check how to get to their designated school. The lists allocating students for the matura in English can be found on the information boards in building D1 at Zlatarski School. Every student will receive a pass for sitting the matura exams, in which they can find the school and the room, where the second matura will be taking place.
Students enter the examination rooms with an identity document – identity card, passport or a driving license, together with the pass to the matura exams.
At matura exams you are expected to write with a black pen!

On Sunday, May 15 First Thracian Cohort will march on Vitosha Blvd. in Sofia. The parade will announce the fourth edition of the Festival of Ancient Heritage Eagle on the Danube, which runs from 27th to May 29th in Svishtov. Zlatarski School will take part in the event under the leadership of Mrs Poli Micheva, teacher of Latin, Culture and Civilization at the school.
The program of the event includes:
* 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Procession of Roman legionnaires and vestals on Vitosha Boulevard with endpoint National Palace of Culture.
* 1:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. – Show reconstruction “Roman Legion in the province of Thrace recruit soldiers” – in front of the National Palace of Culture.
* 2 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Time for audience and fans to take photos of themselves with Roman legionnaires, vestals, and equipment of the cohort – swords, helmets, shields, etc.
The event is held with the support of Sofia mayor Mrs. Yordanka Fandakova; parade organizers are Svishtov Club – Sofia, Svishtov Municipality and Council of Tourism-Svishtov.

On 02.05.2011 a Zlatarski School student will take part in a charity concert at Rock Club ‘Angel Heart’. Slavena Manolova, 11 IB C, together with her rock group Hype, together with several other bands will be performing for the charitable cause.
The money raised at the event will be donated to the 6 year old Ivan Radev from Plovdiv, who is suffering from a muscle tumour. The money needed for his treatment is impossible for his family, and this is why they need your help. ‘We believe that more people will contribute to this great cause and at the same time enjoy live music’, says Slavena.

A few months ago the competition for “green projects’ was won by 8 ‘a’ class, who came up with the idea of a green classroom. Now that it is springtime, the realization of the project is on its way. As we already know, the project will be financed by the Rotary club, where Interact Zlatarski is a member. In the building of the classroom will be involved students from our Interact Zlatarski club and members of the Rotaract club. Having in mind that this is an ambitious project, Interact Zlatarski invites all who can and are willing to help to join the initiative. For all IB students it is important to note that their participation in the project will be considered for their CAS hours. We welcome all students to join this project!
Service at Zlatarki School
Students from 10 ‘c’ class are organising a charity football match “teachers vs students”. The aim of the event is to fundraise for the children’s home in Nadejda. The date of the match is still to be announced, but we hope it will take place around 20 May 2011. For sure, the day of the event will be a Thursday – during the extracurricular activities. The Farewell to the Class of 2011 is expected to be an event filled with laughter, jokes, tears and hugs. The organisers of the event, who following the school tradition are 11 graders, have seriously taken up the task of preparing an unforgettable and unique experience for the graduates.
What nominations have they prepared? Are they going to be good ‘farewell-ers”? This is what we will find out on 29 April 2011 at 12.00 o’clock.

More and more students are interested in the opportunity to study Medicine abroad. This highly attractive university programme requires a specialized preparation in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Mathematics. Zlatarski International School allows its students taking the international programmes (International Baccalaureate/A Levels) to study these subjects and thus to prepare for Medicine in the United Kingdom, the USA and Germany.
The curriculum is taught entirely in English and a large proportion of the practical assignments take place in the school laboratory, which is especially equipped according to international programme standards. The making is done by external examiners, which ensures the objective results in the exams. This way students at Zlatarski School have a much greater change in applying to study Medicine at university. The intensive programme in grades 11 and 12 in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and/or Mathematics prepares students according to international standards.
The established university applications centre for the UK at Zlatarski School (UCAS) prepares students for the requirements of different universities, and great emphasis is placed on the preparation of the motivation application essay, as well as the required admissions tests for entry into medicine. Zlatarski School already has established contacts with the most prestigeous universities in the UK. The fact that our graduates have already gained places in these universities, gives additional weight and legitimacy to our students applications.
Medicine is one of the most rigorous university programmes. Therefore students should be exceptionally motivated in order to complete their studies successfully. Despite the intensive schedule, the programme at Zlatarski School allows ambitious students to receive an adequate preparation and international qualifications in addition to their Bulgarian diplomas.

The International Baccalaureate exam session this year will take place in the period 4 May – 20 May 2011. The graduates of Zlatarski School will sit more than 20 exams in order to obtain their international IB diplomas, as well as sitting the 2 compulsory matura exams. Students at Zlatarski will sit exams in: Bulgarian language and literature, English language, History, Economics, Biology, Physics, Mathematics and High Level Mathematics, German language and Spanish language.
These exams will take place at Zlatarski School, which is an authorised examination centre of the International Baccalaureate. The exams are marked by international examiners from all over the world, in order to ensure the independent and objective marking of student work. This year, the exams will be sent to the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Germany, Greece, New Zealand, Canada, the Netherlands, etc.
The results of the exams and the final marks in the international diplomas will be available in the beginning of July 2011. Good luck to all our students!

Хмм! Добър въпрос. Мислихме и това измислихме! Ххахахха! Освен всички други неща, то представлява саркастичен поглед върху противоречията на човешкото поведение! (Следва бурен смях)

Golden medal – table tennis
The table tennis team at Zlatarski School came first in Sofia, winning the golden medal in the capital and the champions are: Borislav Panov (10a), Luchezar Pavlov (10a), Filip Nasser (10a) and Petar Tsvetanov (9b). We are expecting a great performance in the National competition in table tennis, which will take place in Plovdiv, between 26 and 29 Maj 2011.
Badminton
Congratulations to the badminton team of Zlatarski School (boys 8 – 10 grade), who won 4th place in the tournament in Sofia.
Athletics
Our athletes came 4th in the capital (boys 8-10 grade) and 6th (girls).
The champions in Athletics are Nicolay Petrov (9a) and Stoyan Shukerov (10b), who came 3rd in the capital.

Announcement of results and the status of candidates: approved, approved under condition, not approved, based on the the ranking of candidates and the approval of the admission committee. Candidates with status approved under condition can re-take the exam in II intake (14 May 2011) in order to improve their results.
Enrollment for the I intake takes place in the period 18 – 29 April 2011 at the school with:
- Document for completed year (gradebook or certificate for completed 7 grade)
- 4 pictures (document format)
- medical card
- paid first installment and a signed contract for tuition, after agreeing with the School Rules and Procedures
For all candidates and their parents, the School organises information sessions. The next information session will take place on 28 April 2011 at 5.30pm. Information meetings with candidates and their paretns are taking place in the School auditorium. At the beginning of April 2011 parents will receive Academic Report Cards and IB Academic Reports. These are used by teachers to inform parents of students performance in addition to a commentary on the preparation, discipline and future recommendations on students school work.
This is a list of the top students at Zlatarski School, who have achieved the highest results in the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme. As the first and most experienced IB school in Bulgaria, Zlatarski School is very proud to have such a long tradition of excellent results. Students are ranked according to their IB Diploma result. Results of 34 points and above are considered excellent by top universities in the world. Results of 38 points and above are only achieved by 10% of the students in the world and results of 40 and above are achieve by only 5% of the students in the world. The list also includes information on the students’ graduation year, choice of university and programme of studies. To date more than 220 students have studied in the International Baccalaureate programme at Zlatarski School.

For a consecutive year, Zlatarski School organises a summer school in the United Kingdom. Students can choose between summer school in London, Summer School in Oxford and British School in Sofia. Booking for the summer schools takes place between 1 February and 22 May 2011 until all places are full. Thanks to the established UCAS centre at Zlatarski International School, the international programmes and certificates, as well as the excellent preparation at school, the Class of 2011 students are already admitted (24. 03. 2011) in some of the most prestigious universities in the United Kingdom.
St. Andrews University for the first time admitted students of Zlatarski School in the programmes Economics and Economics – Management. This is a great achievement, as St. Andrews University, founded in 1413, is fifth in the UK according to the Times University Ranking and Prince William graduated this very institution.
London School of Economics admitted this year Zlatarski School students in the programmes Accounting, Finance and Employment Relations. London School of Economics (LSE) is one of the most selective universities in the UK and admission there is a testimony for the school, for the motivation of students and the professionalism of teachers. A great success is also the admission of Zlatarski students at Warwick University in the programmes Politics and Sociology and Industrial Economics.
Similarly to last year King’s College London admitted our students in the programmes Business and Management and History. King’s College is among the oldest universities in English, together with Oxford and Cambridge. A great success is also the admission of our students in Durham University и York University. According to the Times, these universities rank 7th and 8th in the United Kingdom. Our students will reading at Durham the following subjects – Finance, Business Finance, Economics and Marketing. At York, our students are admitted in the degrees – Social and Political Studies, Economics, Finance and Management.
Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design and Digital and Video Arts were among the most favoured programmes by Zlatarski School students. These subjects require specific preparation and we are happy with the successful admission of our students at Cardiff University, University of Leeds, University of the Creative Arts, Oxford Brookes University, University of Sheffield, Westminster University, Brunel University.
Law and Political Studies students of Zlatarski School will be studying at Queen Mary University, University of Kent, University of Exeter, University of Reading, University of Westminster.

28.03.2011 Dear parents! We have sent out academic report card N2, which will give you information on the results and school performance of your children.
On 27 February 2011 the National Round of the National Polylingual Competition took place. Miroslav Miroslavov Dimitrov, a student at Zlatarski, won first place in the English – German competition. Congratulations, this is a national achievement.
Congratulations also go to Mihaela Leandar Litova (11 grade), Rumyana Nikolova Romanova (11 grade), Borislav Borislavov Tomirkov (11 grade), Dimitar Evelinov Kaloyanov (10 grade). These students performed among in the country in the English – German competition.
This success shows that students at Zlatarski are not only proficient in the English language, but they are also proficient in their second language, making them truly multilingual students. Congratulations to their teachers and we wish our students every success in the future.

On 24 February 2011 the premiere of ‘The Games of Cupid” will take place at Zlatarski. Director and producer of the play is Poli Micheva, teacher of Latin and civilizations, and the actors are … talented students from Zlatarski School. “This is a love story based on Roman authors”, says Poli Micheva. And complementing the spirit of February, this play aims to capture everyone watching it with love sentiments and romantic thoughts. The actors are – Anton Hristov 11a, Konstantin, 8a, Alexander, 10a, Kaloyan 10a, Vassil 9v, Martin, Rada, Gablieva, 10b. The play set and constumes are done by Rumi Yordanova. And for the good mood of the event, is responsible…everyone of you! The premiere is taking place on 24 February, at 14.00 in Zlatarski School Hall.

The 12th grade student Teodora Kuleva made her debut as an actress in the national theatre ‘Ivan Vazov’ at the premiere of ‘August in Oklahoma’ by Tracy Letts, directed by Yasen Peiankov. Tedy showed acting skills with dignity, together with actors Stoyan Aleksiev, Boyka Velkova, Radena Vylkanova, Valentin Ganev, Reni Vrangova, Paraskeva Djukelova, Albena Koleva, Valentin Tanev, Marii Rosen, Ana Papadopoulu, Iliana Kodjabasheva, Theodor Elmazov, Joseph Shamley.
Despite being a talented actress, Teodora Is a very good student and at the current moment applies for a degree in ‘Psychology’ in Holland. Everyone who wishes to submerge in this wonderful staging can attend the national theatre ‘Ivan Vazov’ on 11 of February, 19:00. According to New Your Times: A fraught, densely plotted saga of an Oklahoma clan in a state of near-apocalyptic meltdown, “August” is probably the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years. Oh, forget probably: It is, flat-out, no asterisks and without qualifications, the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years.
01.02.2011 Zlatarski School students will study at Harvard University
Students for Zlatarski International School will participate in an educational programme at Harvard University in July, 2011. After a strong competition, the nominated students who have successfully passed through the process of application for 2011 People to People Leadership Summit are: Gabriela Hristova (10a), Mirela Maneva (10б), Eva Staneva (11a), Lorin Raychinova (11IB), Danail Vassilev (11IB).
The participation in this prestigious programme at Harvard University will not only offer Zlatarski students the opportunity to spend 10 days in one of the authoritative universities in the world, but to develop their leadership skills and understand what is necessary to achieve their goals. During their stay at Harvard, students will have to face different challenges, helping them to determine their future plans and effectively contribute to society. Mirela, Gabriela, Eva, Lorin and Danail are students with excellent academic profile. Showing profundity and ripeness in their relationship with others, they are ready to go for any challenge. Zlatarski School football team gained second place Olympia Cup tournament for private schools, held on 15th and 16th January 2011 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The success is achieved thanks to coach Nikolay Staikov and our boys’ common efforts: Nikolay Savov (12 IB Б), Mark Apostolov (11 IB Б), Martin Slavchev and Vasil Ivanov from 11 IB B grade, Stefan Deskov (11 IB Г), Victor Lachev (10 A), Nikolay Mihailov and Anjey Chepilev from 9 Б grade. 10.01.2011 Известни са резултатите от националния доклад “Училище за утрешния ден. Резултати от участието на България в Програмата за международно оценяване на учениците ПИЗА 2009″. Средният резултат на учениците от Гимназия Златарски, участвали в ПИЗА 2009, е 502 точки. Този резултат е по-висок от средния резултат на българските ученици (429 точки) със 73 точки и по-висок от средния резултат за държавите от ОИСР (493 точки) с 9 точки. Поздравления!

Васил Коларов, ученик от 9а клас, Републикански шампион по картинг в клас Rotax Max през 2010г.
Васил Коларов е на 15 години. Активно с картинг-спорт се занимава от началото на 2010г. Като лицензиран състезател участва във всички 16 кръга от Републиканския шампионат по картинг в клас „Ротакс Макс”, които се проведоха от м.март до м.октомври 2010г. на различни писти в страната. Състезателният му номер в този шампионат е 76. Васил спечели 14 призови места и съответните купи – 5 трети места, 3 втори места и 6 първи места и успя да стане „Републикански шампион по картинг в клас Rotax Max” още през първия си състезателен сезон. Генералното награждаване на Българската Федерация по картинг спорт за 2010 година се проведе на 03.12.2010г. в Пресклуб България – стадион “Васил Левски”.
Благодарение на шампионската си титла, Васил Коларов получи правото да участва във Световните финали по картинг в клас „Ротакс Макс” за 2010г., които се проведоха от 14 до 21 ноември 2010 г. на писта „Ла Kонка” в Италия (Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals 2010, La Conca, Muro Leccese, Italy) с участието на над 250 пилота от повече от 55 страни. Номерът, под който Васил Коларов взе участие в тези финали, е 241.
Освен в картинг спорта, Васил Коларов се обучава и тренира управление на спортен автомобил. На 7 и 8 май 2010г. той взе участие в 9-ия Национален събор на „БМВ-клуб България”, където се състезва в дисциплината „Тайм Атак” за автомобили до 2800 куб.см. и спечели първото място, въпреки че това беше първото му автомобилно състезание и беше най-младия пилот от всички участници.

15.12.2010 Zlatarski School Reunion The traditional gathering of all Zlatarski School graduates will be held on the 19th December. The event organizers this year are Martina Hristova (Class 2007), Doris Solomonova (Class 2007), Violeta Manolova (Class 2007) and Niya (Class 2006).
13.12.2010 Examination Week for International Programme students The students in 11IB are sitting their first round of Mock IB Examinations this week. 47 students are now sitting the exams. During this intensive week, they will write two papers for each of their six IB subjects. The exams are arranged to give the students practice with the format of the exams. Everything, from the format of the papers, to the arrangement of the test room, to the stationary on which the students record their answers, resembles the real exam experience. Световноизвестната американска писателка Маги Стийвотър гостува в България
На 10 декември 2010 г. в България по покана на своите издатели (ИК «Кръгозор») пристигна световноизвестната американска авторка Маги Стийвотър. Писателката, която сподели, че е очарована от митологията, музиката и природата на родината ни, посети единствено България като държава представител на Югоизточна Европа. Тя пише романи в модерния в момента жанр ърбън фентъзи. Изключителният интерес към тях в световен мащаб опровергава твърдението, че младежите не четат. Нещо повече, младите хора – основните читатели на подобни книги – в момента диктуват модата в световното книгоиздаване. За пръв път лично от автор от световна величина в този жанр имахме възможност да разберем защо тийнейджърите и младите хора (а и не само те) по цял свят толкова харесват и четат книгите с вампири, върколаци, ангели и феи, каква е тайната на успеха на тези книги. Основното послание, което издателството отправя към българските млади хора чрез всички събития по време на гостуването на писателката, е, че българската митология и фолклор – като част от световните – могат да бъдат в основата на най-четените романи за тийнейджъри.
Първата среща между многобройните български почитатели на ърбън фентъзито и Маги Стийвотър се проведе по време на Софийския международен панаир на книгата, на 10 декември. Маги разговаря с феновете и почерпи идеи за бъдещи книги. Ученици от гимназия „Златарски” от десети и единайсети клас присъстваха на срещата. Деси, Иван, Денис, Кристина, Калоян, Зорница, Филип, Емил, Ана-Мария, Вили, Мила, Сократис, Александра и Атанас бяха подготвили купища въпроси, с които затрупаха авторката.
Кулминацията в посещението на авторката беше Карнавалът на магическите светове. Маскарадът се проведе в събота, 11 декември, клуб Ялта (София). Кукери, самодиви, вълци, върколаци, феи и всякакви приказни създания се забавляваха с Маги Стийвотър. Фолклорните танци, музикалните поздрави и наградите на сцената бяха дирижирани от обаятелния водещ Владо Карамазов. Бяха обявени и наградени победителите в двата конкурса на ИК Кръгозор – конкурсът за буктрейлър и конкурсът за четиристишие, вдъхновени от книгите на Маги.
С гордост съобщаваме, че двама ученици от гимназията участваха в конкурса за буктрейлъри –Лъчезар Стойков и Елена-Аврора Кутевска от 11 IB клас. Елена-Аврора беше среддесетимата финалисти в конкурса и се бори за една от големите награди.
Коя е Маги Стийвотър: 28-годишната звезда на тийнфентъзито покори света с трилогията „Тръпка”, „Копнеж”, „Завинаги” и с поредицата за тъмните феи “Ридание” и „Балада”. „Тръпка” зае второ място в класацията на amazon.com за десетте най-добри тийнейджърски романа за 2009 г., като задържа челното си място 35 седмици. След като „Тръпка” пожъна светкавичен успех в световен мащаб, компанията „Unique Features” (продуценти на „Властелинът на пръстените”) обяви, че работи по филмирането й. Книгата „Тръпка” е преведена на 32 езика. Маги Стийвотър споделя за България: „България… В представите ми това е древно място с мрачни и тайнствени планини. Харесва ми дори как звучи самото име: България. Като че ли звучи по-добре, произнесено с акцент. Харесах много една фраза, която открих във вашите народни приказки: „Юнак без рана не може.” С това изречение мога да завърша всеки от моите романи.”

На 09.12.2010 г. от 17:30 ч. в салона на Гимназия Златарски ще се проведе информационна среща за прием в международните програми на Гимназия Златарски – IB Diploma Program и А-Levels. На срещата ще бъде поднесена подробна информация за същността на програмите, възможностите, които те дават, изучаваните предмети, условията за прием, университетите и специалностите, в които са приети дипломантите на Гимназия Златарски.
08.12.2010 Благотворителна среща между футболните отбори на ПФК “Златарски” и ФК Американски Колеж София. Момчетата от футболния отбор на Гимназия Златарски организират благотворителен мач срещу отбора на Американския Колеж. Срещата е с цел подпомагане на дом за сираци “Христо Ботев” в кв. “Горна баня”. Със събраните средства от срещата ще бъдат закупени нови зимни дрехи и малки коледни изненади за децата от дома. Също така събираме неизползваеми от вас дрехи, обувки, книги и играчки.

22.11.2010 Конкурс „Млади преводачи” Елена-Аврора Кутевска, Лорин Райчинова и Михаела Литова от 11 IB В, Петър Тошков (11 IB Б) и Данаил Василев от 11 IB Г клас ще представят Гимназия Златарски на международния конкурс „Juvenes Translators”. Той се провежда за четвърта поредна година и в него вземат участие ученици от над 1 605 училища от цял свят. Конкурсът по превод „Juvenes Translatores“ има за цел да насърчи интереса на младите към ученето на чужди езици. „Млади преводачи“ повишава осведомеността и за учебните програми по превод и за все по-голямата нужда от преводачи както в институциите на ЕС, така и в Европа като цяло. 20.11.2010 За Zlatarski School Newsletter, Николета Със сигурност повечето от вас са чували за IGCSE, но се чудят какво точно представлява тази програма: Ето, че вече тази програма я има и в България. За първа година е в нашето училище и се очаква чрез нея всеки да избере в каква насока да се обучава и развива по-нататък. Тук е мястото където можете да прочете нещо повече: - IGCSE е разпространено в над 100 държави по целия свят; - тази обучителна програма е открита през 1988 година и се равнява на английското GCSE; - Завършващите се оценяват по скала с 8 точки, като най-високата е А+ , а най-ниската – G; - IGCSE е създадена за деца от 14 до 16 години и има за цел да подготвя учениците за по-нататъшното им обучение в 11 и 12 клас - IGCSE включва предмети от 5 различни области (чужди езици, хуманитарни науки, социални науки, математика, информационни технологии) В обучителния план има баланс между житейския опит и научената теория, и също така е направен да бъде еднакъв във всички държави. Преминаващите през тази програма имат много по-голям шанс след завършването на IB и A Levels да попаднат в добър университет и да се реализират успешно в живота. В 8 клас на учениците се предлага така нареченото Pre-IGSCE. То помага да подобриш Английския си език, докато учиш основите на предметите в IGSCE, и така да улесниш обучението си през следващите години. |

19.11.2010 Peace Quilt project Гимназия Златарски организира конкурс за рисунка на тема „Какво означава мира за мен”. Могат да вземат участие ученици от 8 и 9 клас (14-15 годишни). Рисунката, която ще спечели конкурса, ще представя България на Олимпийските игри в Лондон през 2012 г. като част от голямо платно с рисунки на деца от целия свят, изобразявайки PEACE. 18.11.2010 БЧК – през месец ноември стартира благотворителна кампания под надслов „Коледа е за всички. Нека дарим хляб и топлина на най-бедните.” Кампанията се ораганизира от БЧК в сътрудничество с ученици от клуб „БЧК – Гимназия Златарски”. За 1 седмица бяха продадени над 320 коледни картички, средствата от които ще отидат за подпомагане на сираци, социално слаби и болни хора. |

16.11.2010 Green Project Interact – Rotary Sofia City, в сътрудничество с Interact Club Zlatarski, организират конкурс за проект за зелена идея за ученици от гимназията. Спечелилият проект ще бъде финансиран със сумата от 200 лв. от Rotary. Основната концепция на проекта трябва да бъде свързана с опазване на околната среда. Краен срок за участие: 30 ноември 2010 г. | 15.11.2010 Номинации за World Leadership Summit 2011, “People to people Ambassador Programs” Тази година Международна Гимназия Златарски номинира 7 от най-отличените си възпитаници за участие на Leadership Summits 2011. Началото на движението „People to People” се слага през далечната 1956 г. от президента на Съединените щати по това време – Айзенхауър. Вече повече от 50 години програмите „People to People” предоставят възможности на ученици на възраст 14-17 години от цял свят, свързани с международни образователни семинари, които се провеждат всяко лято. Тръгване в 8.00 ч. сутринта от „Александър Невски” в началото на ул. Оборище. Пристигане и разглеждане на култовия скален комплекс Перперикон. Посещение на Историческия музей в Кърджали. Настаняване в манастира Боян Саръев “Успение Богородично”. Вечеря. Нощувка.
Ден 2:
Закуска. Разглеждане на светилището на Орфей при с. Татул и причудливите скални гъби край с. Зимзелен. Отпътуване за Казанлък (възможност за посещение на Музея на розата). Вечеря. Нощувка.
Ден 3:
Закуска. Посещение на Тракийската гробница. Отпътуване за Старосел. Разглеждане на обекта. Отпътуване за София. Пристигане в късния следобед.

29.10 – 31.10.2010 Екскурзии 2010 10-12 клас – първи маршрут : София – Одрин – Истанбул– София
Програма:
1 ден: Тръгване в 05.00ч. Настаняване в хотела и пешеходна разходка из Истанбул, по време на която учениците ще се запознаят с някои от основните забележителности на античния и средновековен исторически център на Истанбул. Първата спирка е площад Беязид, с разположената на него джамия, преминава се през най-големия и най-стария закрит базар в света Капалъ чарши, строен през 15 век. Преминава се покрай Камъка с обръчите (Чембърлиташ), който има много интересна история, и се стига до Хиподрума. През византийско време на него са се провеждали конни състезания, ставали са гладиаторски битки, пиршества и сватби. Днес единствено трите масивни колони свидетелстват за древния произход на тази арена. Египетският обелиск е докаран от храма на Аполон чак от Карнак. Това е най-древният паметник не само на Хиподрума, а в цял Истанбул. Змиевидната колона има същия произход. Император Константин е допринесъл с още една колона, наречена колоната на Константин. Тук е и фонтана на Вилхелм ІІ, построен през ХІХ в., символ на международната дружба. Следва посещение на един от символите на Истанбул – Синята джамия. Наричат я така заради 21 043-те сини фаянсови плочи, използвани при декорирането на джамията, доставени от дворцовите ателиета в Изник. Възможност за вечеря в рибен ресторант (в 18:30 ч.) или в ресторанта на хотела (в 19:00 ч.). Нощувка.
2 ден: Закуска. Сутринта – възможност за посещение на църквата „Св.София”, водохранилището Йеребатан и султанския дворец „Топкапь”. Следобеда – панорамна обиколка на Истанбул с автобус. Обиколката започва от Българската желязна църква „Свети Стефан”, излята цялата от железни плочи, докарани от Виена. Общото тегло е 500 тона. Посещение на Вселенската Патриаршия и църквата „Св.Георги Победоносец”. Следващата спирка е площад Таксим, считан за сърцето на съвременния Истанбул. Тук е и колелото на трамвай „Носталгия” от ХІХ в., атракция за туристите и продължава по бул. Истиклал, където са магазините на известни марки от цял свят. Посещава се и красивата катедрала Сан Антонио, Ордена на Лазаристите, преминава се по уличката София (Софиалъ сокак) и се стига до Галата – кула, на която можете да се качите и да се насладите на красивата гледка или да изпиете по един хубав чай в кафенето до нея. На тази екскурзия ще видите и първото метро в Истанбул, което все още работи идеално. Наричат го „Зъбчата железница”. След моста Галата, се преминава от Европейската в Азиатската част на Истанбул по един от мостовете над пролива Босфор. Така се стига до хълма Йедитепе за кратък престой в Азия. От тук се разкрива една от най-красивите гледки към Европейската част, Босфора, Мраморно море и Принцовите острови. Възможност за вечеря в ресторанта на хотела (19:00 ч.). Нощувка
3 ден: Закуска. Сутринта – възможност за разходка с корабче по Босфора и след това за посещение на църквата Хора. Освобождаване на хотела – до 12:00 ч. Отпътуване за България в 13:00 ч. По пътя разглеждане на Одрин – пешеходна разходка с посещение на двете български църкви в Одрин “Свети Георги” и “Св.св. Константин и Елена” и на джамията Селимие. Пристигане в София ок. 23:30 ч.

23. 10.2010г. Софийски математически турнир – на 23. 10. 2010 г., под ръковоството на г-жа Йоана Калапиш и г-жа Юлия Каменовска, се проведе Софийски математиески турнир, в който участие взеха Любослава Кехайова, Милена Цанкарска и Елена Петрова от 9 В клас, Мария Пенчева, Карла Винчева и Петя Димитрова от 9 Б клас, Петър Димитров (9А клас), Иван Димитров (10В клас) и Богдан Христов (11 IB Г клас). С особено добро представяне се отличиха Любослава Кехайова (9В) и Богдан Христов (11 IB Г клас).

“Зайци” или нещо повече? 15-ти септември 2010.
Всички сме се събрали в двора на Гимназия Златарски и слушаме представителното слово на заместник– директора, бивши и настоящи ученици, почетни гости. Дванадесетокласниците слушат леко отегчени, защото са чували тези думи в продължение на четири години. Ние, осмокласниците, слушаме в захлас прекрасните неща, които чуваме от все още непознатите за нас хора. Церемонията свършва и всички се качваме по стаите.
Въпреки че съм влизала вече в училището, когато държах нелекия изпит, сега някак ми се струва по-различно. След като се настанявам на определеното за мен място, класният ръководител се опитва да разчупи неловкото мълчание като ни кара да се представим с няколко думи. Естествено, всеки казва колко е щастлив и доволен, но едва ли се чувства точно така. Аз лично бях доста уплашена и си го казах. На следващия ден започна тежкото. Осмелих се да изляза от стаята по време на четвъртото междучасие. Навън в зловещия за мен по това време коридор тичаха, общуваха и какво ли още не правеха абсолютно непознати за мен хора. Сега някой ще си помисли „А, тази каква е сдухана” или нещо подобно. Напротив, приятелите ми казват за мен, че съм общителен човек, но обстановката в училище през първата седмица ме кара да се променя леко. Ясно е, че аз няма да тръгна по стаите да се запознавам с хората. Дори не си го и помислям. Въпреки че това, сега като се замисля би било дора тактика, но както и да е. Очакванията ми се оправдаха. “Големите” започнаха да надничат в стаята, а по-смелите даже влизаха! Като изключим факта, че 70% от влизащите просто казваха: „А, зайци” и излизаха, другите бяха учтиви. Харесаха ми. През следващите две седмици запознанствата ми нарастваха. (ЙЕЕЙ). Всичко започна да ми харесва все повече и повече.
Имаше една случка обаче, която за миг ме приземи и ме върна в началната фаза на “заек”. Обядвахме в стола, когато едно доста симпатично момиче от 9 клас дойде да седне при нас. Аз много се зарадвах, защото тя се държеше наистина много добре. Естествено бъзикаше се от време на време, но беше поносимо. След около десет минути нейните приятели я извикаха при тях с не много приятните думи: „Хей, какво правиш при зайците, ела при нас”, тя естествено нямаше как да остане при нас. Не се разстроих кой знае колко, но не ми стана приятно.
Другият път елате и седнете при нас! И вие сте били на нашето място.
Причината поради която ви натоварвам с разказите си е, че не искам следващите осмокласници, не зайци, а осмокласници да се чувстват така както се чувствах аз в началото. Надявам се да съм накарала поне десет човека да се замислят, за да може другата година да посрещнем по-ентусиазирано осмокласниците.

16.10.2010 Стефан Чернев от Випуск 2002 на Гимназия Златарски спечели наградата “Златна роза” на 29-ия фестивал на българския игрален филм за филма си „Парче от Дъгата”. Стефан Чернев е роден през 1983г в София. Дипломира се с магистратура по кинорежисура и бакалавър по публична администрация. Историята в “Парче от дъгата” разказва за една необичайна среща, която ражда едно необичайно приятелство. Стефан Чернев е и съсценарист на “Парче от дъгата” заедно с Георги Шушков. Поздрави на Стефан от целия екип на Гимназия Златарски!

12.10. 2010 Viva Voce @ Zlatarski School The IB Diploma 12th grade students carried out their presentations today in the form of a Viva as part of the extended essay component of the IB Diploma programme. The students had 10 minutes to complete their presentation and 5 minutes to answer questions from the audience. We at Zlatarski are pleased to announce that all 21 students carrying out the Viva successfully completed. The topics for the presentation were in the areas of Bulgarian and English Language, History, Economics and Physics. We congratulate all the students who successfully delivered their viva. It must be noted and the students should be congratulated because the audience ranged 20 to 40 peers and teachers. Delivering a presentation is not an easy thing to do so we hope you all join the Zlatarski school staff in congratulating the students.

Начало на учебната 2010-2011 година
Учебната година за учениците от 11IB клас ще започне на 7 септември 2010 г. от 9.30 часа с IB Retreat. На 7 и 8 септември всички IB учители ще представят накратко преподаваните от тях учебни дисциплини, ще обясняват разликата в нивата (SL, HL), ще разясняват изискванията си и критериите при оценяване. Учениците ще получат в резюме учебното съдържание, предвидено за изучаване по всеки един IB предмет, и календар, съдържащ сроковете за предаване на писмени работи и проекти. За всички останали ученици новата учебна година ще започне на 15 септември.
01.09.2010 Презентации на учениците от 12 клас – Експерименти по биология и физика в Гимназия Златарски Учениците от 12IB клас проведоха своя Group 4 Project заедно с учениците от 11IB клас. Group 4 Project е задължителен елемент от вътрешното оценяване по предметите от 4-а група – Experimental Sciences в Іnternational Вaccalaureate програмата. Изследователската работа се осъществи в училищната лаборатория на Гимназия Златарски, която отговаря на международните стандарти за провеждане на изпити A Levels и International Baccalaureate. Учениците на Гимназия Златарски заедно в групи изследваха биологичната и физичната природа на определени научни проблеми.
